Singapore Dollar

More often than not, accommodations can greatly affect your travel budget. With today’s left and right airline promo fares, most of us impulsively book flights without even considering how much the average accommodation costs will be.

RJ and I have this little jar we called “The World” where we put our loose coins and change. One time, we didn’t realize it was already worth ₱15,000.00 until we’ve counted it. We were shocked that we were able to collect such amount in 3 months — from coins! That time, we weren’t sure where to spend it so we both decided that the money from this jar will be allocated for travelling, hence the name “The World”. Since then, we were using “The World” for staycations or for hotel payments.

How?

Since we practice having a fixed daily allowance, any loose coins from our daily allowance is automatically allocated to “The world”. It is also a big factor that we are living in Singapore, thus the dollar value is high. A 1 dollar coin amounts to ₱40.00(as of writing). We manage to put an average of S$2.50 each every day.

You have a flight in 6 months? Why don’t you try this?

You have 6 months to save. An average of 21 working days per month multiplied by 6, you have 126 days at most.

Set a daily allowance/budget.

Every day, whatever is left from your daily budget, put it in your “travel” jar.

Let’s say you get to have ₱50.00 worth of change left in your pocket.
₱50.00 x 126 days = ₱6,300.00!

Yes, ₱6,300.00 is not much, but heck! It is still extra ₱6,300.00!

What more if you fixed a daily amount to put in everyday, right?

Some hotel websites such as booking.com offers a “pay later” options and saving up might help.

What I like about this habit is even there aren’t any upcoming travel, the fund keeps on growing. We made it a rule that these funds will be for traveling only and so far it works for us.
